On 29 August 2003, immediately after Friday prayers at Imam Ali Mosque in the southern Iraqi city of Najaf, a car bomb was detonated that killed the most prominent Shiite leader, Muhammad Bakr al-Hakim, and 81 other worshippers.
Photographer Jay Wilson was in front of the mosque as the bomb went off. This photo story for eIraq reproduces a series of Jay's photos that convey the panic and horror of the event.
